Being Grateful

During the month of November, take time to be grateful for the blessings that God has given. Sometimes, when you look around at your life and the world around you, it might seem as there is little to be grateful for. It brings to mind the Bible passage Matthew 11:28-30 "Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is sweet and my burden is light." ~Jesus~

Just what is this yoke that Jesus is referring to. Is he actually referring to a wooden crossbeam that connects two animals together so that they can work together side-by-side? The load is equally distributed across both animals, making each able to bear more than if they had to carry the weight individually. In this light, there is a clear implication that in the drudgery of everyday life, Jesus is right there with you, helping to carry the load, if you come to him and ask. It is easier for two. The burden becomes even sweet and light when Jesus is sharing the weight with you. He is asking you to learn that the way to eternal life is through him and with him. He is beside you. Helping you. You just have to recognize that simple fact. If you look deeper within yourself, you just might find the spirit of God that lives within you. And for this we give thanks.
